just use filler
mesh tape is made for hot mixes(plaster)or morter, might work but moisture works from bolth sides of a wall,use paper tape if using joint compound will last longer……good post tho.
if the hole is bigger,buy a patch,you can get one at home depot : ]..

They also sell mesh wire that’s much more durable made for this. It works great.
